Welcome

Welcome to my first blog. I am going to be starting at my new second grade job (for the new school year) in about 2.5 weeks.... eeeek! So many things to do.
Here is a list of the things that I am currently making to get ready for my new classroom (stay tuned for pictures)
- Morning meeting calendar (day, date, month, year, days at school, calendar, weather, seasons, I wonder questions)
- Birthday display (including paper balloons with birth dates and pencils in a pot as presents)
- Behaviour management display (stay tuned for pictures)
- Noise level monitor
- Table top stationary organisers
- My daily routines (including times, literacy and math groups)
- Names for tables, hooks, tubs, book tubs, line partners...
- Where our class is poster (places in the school our class might have gone if not in classroom)
- Where a student may have gone (student can put their name where they have gone, i.e. toilet, office....)

This is most of what I am currently making, will post up pictures when I am done. Any ideas of other things I can be making would be great!

  1. Hi Michelle
Welcome to the classroom roller coaster. I have been teaching for 16 years and I have never had as much fun as I had last year. Embrace the technology, love the learning process and have heaps of fun. The kids will follow your lead.

  2. Wow! Welcome to second grade. I love, love, love it! The noise level monitor is an excellent tool! This is my sixth year teaching second grade (I have 23 years experience at various levels) and the noise level monitor poster has absolutely made my year the smoothest one yet! Second graders definitely need to discuss and bounce ideas off one another. They learn so much this year transitioning from "learning to read" to "reading to learn" that it's unbelieveable! Control of noise level really supports that learning. May God bless you richly!

  3. Thanks Greg, I am definitely looking forward to the "roller coaster". Thanks for your great words of advice n will definitely bring as much technology into the classroom as I can.

Melly, Thank you also, I am very excited to be in second grade- what a great way to put it "learning to read" to "reading to learn" will keep that in my mind as I am teaching. Glad I am onto something useful with my noise monitor- have been in many classes on placements where I had to use my voice to many times to control the noise. Thank you for your kind words :-)

    1. Hi Heather,
I visited your site and had a read through your conscious discipline. It is really interesting and I would love some more information about it. I am currently trying to decide what behaviour plan I want to use ready for next week.
      Thanks

      Michelle
