Morning meeting calendar

I found a great site, Mama Jenn, that had a great calendar for morning meetings. I decided to recreate one for my classroom and change a few things for my needs. (click on the Mama Jenn link for original calendar).

I decided to keep the day, month and year (like Mama Jenn)- however I decided for the date to have proper dates instead of numbers. In Australia, our date goes day/month/year, so I also decided to put them in that order on my board.

I got these cute season and weather cards from Mrs Pancake

Read below about how I use 'I wonder questions'. I have just created a deluxe version with rainbow borders and 13 new questions. You can get these in my tpt store on the following link: I wonder deluxe. Scroll down for the original version.

I wonder questions - deluxe with rainbow border

I decided to add on a question of the week to get my students thinking, wondering and using their imaginations. I have about 45 questions and each Monday I will ask one and the students can discuss their answer with a partner. Each day during the week for a few minutes we can discuss this question, add further questions to the topic and even extend it to a writing session.
I typed these questions up and printed them. To get all questions click on the following link

Like Mama Jenn, I decided to keep how many days have we been at school because I think that is a great idea to help students practice their place value on a daily basis.

Thats about it, again- not my original idea, but adapted it to my needs.

  1. Thanks for sharing your resources! I also had a look at the behaviour management system on Pinterest. I think this looks like a fantastic system with the pegs. How are you going to implement it? Will the pegs be reset daily?

    1. No worries! Yeh the behaviour management chart looks great with the pegs- planning on making mine like that but I might change some of the labels because I don't like teachers choice and parent contact down the bottom- not sure yet what to call them! Yep will reset the pegs daily, but will record on a sheet what each child ends on each day and if they are at the bottom 3 times in a week- or some large number i will contact parents then to chat about their behaviour. And that way while it resets each day, the kids can see you recording it and therefore they are still accountable for their behaviour!!

Thank you for your lovely comments, I am really happy about the 'I wonder' part, hoping to really make the kids think about different things and use their imagination.

  3. Thanks for sharing your "I wonder" questions. I saw them on pinterest, and didn't know how I would use them so I didn't pin it. GASP! I am so glad I found them today, because of course I realized how I can incorporate them into my morning routine.

  9. I just stumbled upon your blog through pinterest, and I must say I adore it! You seem to have to many awesome ideas that I may like to adapt next year (I just finished my course a few weeks ago!)... it's nice to find an Australian blog, let alone a Melbourne-based one. Anyway, I absolutely adore your 'I wonder' questions and birthday treats; I'm definitely storing them in the back of my mind somewhere!
